Protecode Library IP Auditor™ (LA) automatically analyzes any code that is deposited into the organization’s Source Control Management (SCM) library to ensure all files committed are compliant with the company’s IP policy. Separate IP policies can be established for specific branches of the library. If violations are detected, an email is sent to the administrator or other predetermined user indicating the policy violations, the violating licenses, the location of the violating files and other appropriate details for action to be taken. The LA is an extension to the Protecode Enterprise IP Analyzer product.

Protecode Library Auditor is part of Protecode System 4 solution, using the analysis and management capabilities of Protecode Enterprise Server (ES). The LA and ES can run on the same platform, and multiple LAs can use the services of the same ES.

The Library IP Auditor (LA) is notified by a Protecode repository plug-in every time new files are deposited in a pre-defined branch of the repository. Once notified, it scans the software that was checked-in, detecting open source licensing and copyright obligations of the files and comparing the results to the IP policies established by an administrator. If a violation of the licensing or copyright policies is detected, a notification is sent to the administrator.

Protecode Library Auditor works with all prevalent Source Control Management Systems. Current implementations include CVS, SVN, Perforce and ClearCase. Protecode Library Auditor uses the scanning capabilities of Enterprise Server, as such is lightweight, easy to deploy, and works with all other reporting and management capabilities of Protecode System 4 components.
