Why Use Code Administrator:
Protecode Code Administrator™ (CA) is a part of the Protecode System 4™ solution, that ensures only pre-approved open source or third party code is introduced into the codebase. CA empowers administrators to investigate, analyze, and approve third party or open source code before it is used in the development environment. Assessing, and approving third party or open source code before it is introduced into the development environment is an effective and efficient way to ensure license compliance. Protecode CA is a component of the end-to-end software license compliance process within an organization and a component of Protecode's Open Source Software Adoption Process. How Code Administrator Will Benefit Your Organization:
- Provides a central workflow solution that can be managed centrally, and shared by all members of an organization, to ensure compliance with corporate licensing policies.
- Reduces time to market by improving software quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Reduces development costs by enabling companies to use more open source components through a controlled process.
- Increase software security by identifying export control restrictions, encryption properties, and reported security vulnerabilities.
- Reduces uncertainty and infringement risk around using open source and commercially licensed components.
How Code Administrator Works:
- Using Code Administrator (CA), a developer or contractor can submit software packages to be approved for use.
- The user provides all known metadata about the desired software package, and answers a number of license-specific questions about usage.
- The package request then appears in the reviewer’s request queue.
- The reviewer can view the request and analyze the package using the Protecode Core Analysis Engine, identifying licensing and copyright information, license compliance actions, license incompatibilities, export control restrictions, encryption properties, and known security vulnerabilities.
- A Bill of Materials report is generated indicating any violations against the established licensing policy. With this information, the administrator can make an informed decision about approving or rejecting the package.
